We thoroughly enjoyed having a glimpse into the future as we celebrated the 100th Day of School and got to see your children dressed as 100 year-olds! They looked adorable, and so many of them stayed in character all day long, using their canes, bent over, squinting to see – all the things they perceive as evidence of being old and a grandparent! I didn’t have the heart to remind that I’m a grandmother, and I certainly hope I don’t look like that!! These special days are always great fun!
Valentine’s Day – This week, we will celebrate Valentine’s Day on Wednesday! Be sure to check this week’s teacher email and class Facebook page for specific instructions on what their class is doing that day. From 2:00 – 3:00 pm, some of our Room Moms are providing an Ice Cream Sundae Party for the whole school, and our teachers will lead some fun games to celebrate this Day of Love! Parents are always welcome to attend!
Ash Wednesday – Also, the observance of Lent begins on Wednesday, and St. Philip’s Episcopal Church will provide special Ash Wednesday services at noon and 7:00 pm. In addition, this year the church will be offering an opportunity to get your blessed Ashes-on-the Go. You may receive the imposition of ashes and helpful info on how to make the most of Lent for you and your family between 7:30 – 9:oo am and 2:00 – 3:30 pm in two convenient locations: 1) near the High Cross in front of the church; and 2) in the carpool lane near the flagpole (remain in your car at this location).
Our students, parents, and staff will also be provided the opportunity to receive ashes immediately following Preschool Chapel around 9:00 am. Father Clayton will be stationed in the foyer of the school during this time. We invite you to have a discussion with your child regarding whether they will receive ashes or not. As always, you are invited to join us.
News – It’s never easy to say goodbye to those we love and care for, but we learned this week that Jacque Ballent will soon be leaving us. Jacque provided such a smooth transition after Mandy Graham left, and she has done an amazing job, endearing herself to everyone. Although she would have loved to be with us until the end of the year, she has been offered a job at Legacy Christian Academy. Her new title will be Marketing/Communications Specialist, and I have no doubt that she will do an awesome job, since this is where her talents lie. Although we are super sad to lose her here at St. Philip’s, we can’t help but be thankful that God has provided so well for her and her family. I know that you will want to express your appreciation and love to her over the next two weeks – her last day with us will be on Friday, February 23rd. Please be in prayer for us as we try to determine how her responsibilities can best be handled for the remainder of the year.
Memory Verse for February: “The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, He will show you a way out so that you can endure.” ~ I Corinthians 10:13
Quote of the Week: “Whatever you are, be a good one.” ~ Abraham Lincoln
