Can you believe that Sunday is the 1st of October?? We’ve officially completed 5 full weeks of school, and from our perspective, things seem to be going well. However, we are always open to suggestions for improvement, so if something’s not working for your family, please reach out and let me know. It could just be a blindspot for us and something that is easily fixed!
Fall Break – Students and staff are looking forward to a nice, long weekend at the end of next week. Please note – students are out of school on Friday, Oct. 6th and Monday, Oct. 9th.
Uniforms – I know…the dreaded topic!! I’ve heard that many of you are beginning to receive your orders, and hopefully, the rest of you will receive yours in the near future. As you begin to receive pieces, please have your child wear them to school. The sooner we can begin to have a uniform look, the better!
In the meantime, if you do not have any pieces, please continue to follow the requested Plan B for uniforms – school-appropriate shorts or pants in navy or denim and a solid color shirt or St. Philip’s shirt. No character t-shirts are allowed.
Outside Testing – If your child has had outside educational or psychological testing, especially if it requires accommodations from our staff, we must have a complete copy of the testing results and/or Individual Education Plan. As always, we will keep those reports confidential and on a need-to-know basis, but many times, those reports make suggestions and recommendations for the classroom teacher to use during instruction. We would be happy to conference with you to determine how we can best meet your child’s needs here at school. The team effort of home and school can make a huge difference in your child’s learning experiences here at St. Philip’s.
Picture Day – October 18th – This year we are using Legacy Studios for our school pictures. They will provide individual and group photos, as well as a few other options for you to consider. After Fall Break, you will receive an order form to be completed prior to Picture Day. In a perfect world, we would all have our uniforms by this date, but if not, we will have an alternate plan. As we will be taking individual and group photos, we do want to have a uniform appearance, so our Plan B for Picture Day will be:
Boys – white button-down collared shirt with navy shorts or pants
Girls – white collared shirt with either the plaid skort/skirt or navy skort/skirt
First Spirit Night of the Year– We hope to see everyone at our Spirit Night at Mooyah Burgers on Wednesday, Oct. 11th, any time between 4:30 – 7:30 pm. We met there last year and had a fun night of fellowship! When you go, be sure to tell them that you’re from St. Philip’s!
Join the Team – Michael Sharp, one of our St. Philip’s students, fights a daily battle because of Type 1 Diabetes. Many of you have supported Michael and his family in the past by participating in the yearly JDRF walk, and we want to offer that opportunity once again. Of course, this is strictly voluntary! This year’s walk will be held nearby in Plano on Saturday, Oct. 21st. There are several ways you can be involved, and I’m including links to assist you in either making a donation or ordering a t-shirt. Our staff will be ordering t-shirts to show our support and any students who have one may wear them on Friday, Oct. 20th to stand with Michael. Here’s how you can be involved:
Memory Verse for October: “An anxious heart weighs a man down, but a kind word cheers him up.” ~ Proverbs 12:25
I am so impressed with how well our students are doing in learning the monthly Bible verse. They are rockin’ it, and it makes my heart happy to see them planting God’s word about kindness in their hearts!
Quote of the Week: “Children are not a distraction from more important work. They are the most important work.” ~ C. S. Lewis
