Our balanced approach to literacy allows teachers to blend instruction with authentic reading and writing experiences. Balanced literacy is a framework that integrates reading to students, reading with students and encouraging students to read independently. Our main curriculum is comprised of read aloud, guided reading, shared reading, interactive and shared writing, novel studies and word study.
We utilize a hands-on, differentiated approach for building math skills. Critical thinking, math reasoning, and problem solving experiences support our students’ ability to make sense of math and apply it to real-life situations.
Our students explore the world around them via hands-on investigations. Students collaboratively engage with others, as well as learning thru individual inquiry and research.
We employ a developmentally appropriate study of self and home, community, state, and our nation. Focus is given to the impact of significant individuals and events on history, as well as the symbols, customs, and celebrations of Americans.
Science and Social Studies concepts are often incorporated into literacy and math lessons when appropriate.
Support services for academics, speech, and language development are available.
